John's hunt It took me eight days in mostly hypothermic rain, but I managed to take a very nice Billy on Kodiak Island. I saw him everyday, but couldn't get below him or above him to get a shot. He was a crafty one. Finally, after observing his early morning feeding habits at a lower elevation, I was able to get within range and take him with my old pre-64 Winchester M-70, '06 featherweight. My partner shot his (old Nanny) right out of the tent on the third day we were out. No bear problems on this one. A late run of salmon had them well below our 2,000' elevation. We had planned on taking some Blacktails too and it seemed there were plenty around until we had filled our goat tags and started hunting them. Can't wait to chase goats or sheep maybe next year. |
![]() Tim's Hunt My brother from Wisconsin and I weathered 9 out of 11 days of rain and fog but came out without any broken limbs. Our Pilot briefed us on some incredible goat hunt stories and rescues during that same week that made us feel relieved to be back safe. 7 goat hunters that we heard about and talked to in person were not so lucky. One tore his knee up, one broke his leg, one fell and hit his chin on a rock and blew his jaw out of its socket, one broke his nose and knocked his front tooth out, two lost there entire base camp because of heavy rains which raised the lake level, and the last one took a fall and broke his arm. I think I'll quit with goats while I'm ahead.
