Alaska 2006

Hunting days Sept 5-9

Although no moose were taken this trip, terrible moose hunting weather this year temps averaged in the 60's to even low 70's and a full moon as well but again it was a hunt that will be remembered for a very long time.

Steve Stoyer came out to thrill everyone with the firing of his giant air cannon that shot bowling balls. To catch a fired ball in a photo I had to adjust my shutter speed as high as it would go, with a blink you would lose sight of the ball after it was fired

The warm temps kept us from really giving them the full work out but I see them really helping us tame the cold that has traditionally followed us on this trip

It has become a tradition to spend the final night in Alaska having dinner with Ken and Barb at their beautiful home.

Cory missed a black bear on the last evening of the hunt and Ron, well Ron decided to get everyone excited on the last evening and he took a few quick shots at a tree just before dark.

Megan read about the hunt in the Fairbanks News-Miner and called to see if Steve could get involved and of course the next morning he was out with us. Steve was shot pretty bad in Iraq and almost lost his leg and has very LIMITED use of it now. I was able to spend the last day of the hunt with him in the woods and we struck an immediate friendship and he and I spent quite a bit of time together for a few days after the hunt was over for the year. I am looking forward to deer hunting with Steve in November in West Virginia and I hope to be with him when he harvests his first whitetail.
